Introduction
The NBCS computer labs offer several methods for managing and saving files.
Below is a list of different options available.
Please ask a consultant if you have any questions.
Based on industry standards, the computer labs are phasing out both floppy and Zip drives on the MAC and Dell PC formats.
The options below offer more storage space, versatility, stability, and are cost effective.
Eden and RCI accounts
Every one with an eden or RCI account has space available for saving files (Eden- 180 MB, RCI - 100 MB).
Download these instructions to assist you in using Fugu (Mac), and Webdrive or SSH Secure Shell Client (PC).
These programs will help you move documents between your eden/rci account and the computer.
Before reading this document, you should be familiar with the operating system you are using.

USB Flash Drives
A USB flash drive (also called a USB drive, pen drive, memory stick, thumb drive, jump drive)
is a small portable flash memory card that plugs into the USB port of a computer and functions as a portable hard drive.
They are Mac and PC compatible. They offer durability and are small enough to fit into a pocket or on a key chain.
The memory size ranges from 8 MB to 2 GB, and they are relatively affordable.
To secure important data, some have options for a security lock and password function.

CD-Rs can be used once and CD-RWs can be rewritten multiple times (similar to a floppy disk).
They are Mac and PC compatible and affordable in price.
