New Brunswick Computing Services
(NBCS), a division of The Office of Information Technology (OIT), has overall responsiblity for computing service
on the New Brunswick campus, including public labs for
students, and central servers for both students and faculty/staff.
In order to use these facilities, you need a computer account. You can create an
account for yourself using the procedures explained in separate web pages for students and
faculty/staff.
You can use your computer account to access Unix timesharing systems run for faculty/staff and students, to read email from
your PC, and to maintain web pages. An account
is also required to use the Rutgers dialup lines
and PCs in the Campus Computing Centers. (Special
types of accounts are also available for certain guests
and for
departmental
activities.)
NBCS also provides support of various kinds for computing that you do using your
department's facilities, as well as facilities provided by other divisions of OIT. Our Microcomputer Support Group provides
advice for both planning and trouble-shooting and also provides training for
departmental staff. The
NBCS help desk can provide first-level assistance and
referral for services provided by the Telecommunications
Division and Administrative
Computing Services. The Network
Services group within NBCS has University-wide responsibility for a variety of support
services needed for distributed applications.
