Installing and Configuring the QWS3270 Secure Client

 
 

The information in this document will cover the following:

 

  

 

Where do I get the QWS3270 Secure software?

 

If you do not have the QWS3270 Secure software go to the University Software Web Site http://software.rutgers.edu

Log in using your your Rutgers NetID and password this will assist in verifying eligibility.

 

Click “Search Software”

 

 

Enter QWS3270 Secure for “Keyword(s)”

Click “Search”

Obtaining QWS3270 Secure software for current Secure ID card holders

 

If you are a current Secure ID card holders will be able to receive the QWS3270 Secure software at no additional cost.  You will want to click on the download icon  for QWS3270 Secure – Licensed 4.0.

 

Click “qws3270secure.exe”

 

Choose to Run to in stall the software

 


Obtaining QWS3270 Secure software for new users access the ESS mainframe

 

There is a one time $20 licensing fee for new users.

 

 

Proceed to enter your quote. 

 

If you have questions on how to create your quote or any process on the University Software Portal click the “Help” icon at the top of each screen.

 

 

Then choose your topic.

 

Once your order has processed you will receive email notification letting you know that your order has been completed.  At which time you can log back in to the University Software Portal http://software.rutgers.edu, click "My Software” then click the link for the product you purchased, scroll to the bottom of the page, locate the executable file “qws3270secure.exe” to install your software.

Recommended configuration settings for QWS3270 Secure

 

Double Click

 

Click New

 

Type QWS3270 Secure Click OK

Terminal Type the default is IBM-3278-2.  This gets you a 4-color, 24 line by 80 column screen (the 24x80 screen is also know as Model 2, hence the ‘-2’ at the end).  If you want 7-color (which gets you yellow, pink and turquoise in addition to red, green, blue and white), you need to tack a ‘-E’ onto the end.  Thus, if you want 24x80 with 7 colors, choose IBM-3279-2-E.  If you want more lines, you can choose a Model 3 (32 lines, indicated by the ‘-3’) or a Model 4 (43 lines, indicated by the ‘-4’).  The Model 5 (‘-5) will give you additional columns, as well.

This is the log on screen.

To log on you must use your;

Rutadmin User ID (Account number) and your Rutadmin Password

 

Helpful Tips for Troubleshooting QWS3270 Functionality

Cursor Blink Issue

When you are logged into in a session (either QWS3270 Secure or RUID test) and change the cursor so it is Solid instead of blinking it reverts back to a blinking cursor in subsequent sessions. Use this procedure to set the cursor permanently to Solid:

  1. Click on the QWS3270 Secure icon on your desktop
  2. When the session opens DO NOT select a session from the drop down. Click the Cancel button instead.
  3. Click on Options on the menu bar at the top and select Session
  4. Under Display on the Options List click Cursor on the left hand side
  5. In the two Cursor Style boxes click the Solid radio buttons under Normal Mode and Insert Mode at the top
  6. Click the Apply button on the lower right-hand side

The will permanently set the cursor to Solid.

Correcting the Faded Print Issue

Please note:  Color will be spelled colour (Canadian spelling) throughout the program options

These instructions address faded print issues when printing a Rutadmin screen using QWS3270 Secure:

  1. In the menu bar at the top of the screen select Options
  2. From the drop down menu, select Session
  3. In the session menu, select Print, on the left hand side
  4. Go to the Colour Options box in the middle at the bottom of the screen
  5. Select Black & white
  6. Click the Apply button in the bottom right hand corner
  7. Click the OK button

Keyboard mapping

  1. Click Options on the top menu bar
  2. Click Keyboard
  3. Highlight the key that you would like to change
  4. Click the Remap Key on the right
  5. From the drop-down menu, select the desired option
  6. Repeat for other keys you would like to change

For Colors

  1. Click Options on the top menu bar
  2. Click Session
  3. Click Coloursunder the Display heading
  4. Select the colors you want to use
