OIT/NBCS

The OIT/NBCS Help Desk (013 Hill Center, Busch Campus, (732) 445-HELP) provides the following resources for users of SAS on the RCI System:

SAS Manuals and Books

The two introductory manuals listed below are intended for those new to SAS software. These manuals are task-oriented in nature, covering basic operations such as sorting data, generating reports, and creating and maintaining data sets.

The following three manuals are comprehensive references for Base SAS and SAS/STAT software. They cover all Base SAS procedures (PROCs), Data Step statements, and SAS/STAT procedures, respectively. Those who use SAS regularly (especially for statistical analysis) will find these manuals very useful. SAS Language: Reference, Version 6, First Edition (below) also describes the character-based SAS Display Manager in great detail.

The following two manuals detail UNIX-specific aspects of the SAS system, including user interfaces, file management, and SAS options. Users who wish to get the most out of SAS under UNIX will find these manuals valuable.

Those who use other SAS components (e.g., SAS/GRAPH, SAS/ETS) will find the various component-specific Usage and/or Reference manuals helpful.

The Information Center has a reference copy of SAS Institute's Publications Catalog. This catalog provides information on availability and pricing of the entire library of SAS manuals and related books.

In addition to SAS Institute's official manuals, the Institute publishes a number of "books by users", written by SAS users who are not affiliated with the SAS Institute. Varying in complexity, these titles offer helpful information on various aspects of SAS software. Contact SAS Institute's Book Sales Department (see below ) or consult the Publications Catalog for details.

SAS manuals may be purchased directly from SAS Institute, SAS Campus Drive, Cary, NC 27513 (919) 677-8000. Some SAS manuals may be available for purchase at the various Rutgers University bookstores.

For more information on SAS Institute and its publications point your World Wide Web browser to SAS Institute's home page: http://www.sas.com/SASHome.html

Users with Internet access may also wish to investigate the USENET newsgroup comp.soft-sys.sas, a worldwide question-and-answer forum for users of SAS software. As with all USENET newsgroups, it is recommended that you spend some time observing and learning the "netiquette" of the newsgroup before you post messages of your own.
