The OIT Information Center (013 Hill Center, Busch Campus, phone: (732) 445-HELP, provides the following resources for users of SPSS on the RCI system:

SPSS Manuals and Books

Users of SPSS under UNIX will find the following two Base SPSS manuals helpful. The first manual ("User's Guide") documents and explains many tasks and features that are available to users of Base SPSS software. The second manual ("Syntax Reference Guide") comprehensively documents all Base SPSS procedures and commands.

Users of SPSS Professional Statistics, SPSS Advanced Statistics, and/or SPSS Tables will find the following manuals useful.

The Information Center has a reference copy of Prentice Hall's SPSS Publications and Student Software catalog. This catalog contains descriptions of the entire library of SPSS manuals and books.

SPSS manuals may be purchased directly from Prentice Hall, P.O. Box 11071, Des Moines, IA, 50336-1071, (800) 374-1200. Some SPSS manuals and books may be available for purchase at the various Rutgers University bookstores.

Internet

Users with Internet access may wish to investigate the newsgroup comp.soft-sys.spss, a worldwide question-and-answer forum on USENET for users of SPSS software. As with all USENET newsgroups, it is recommended that you spend some time observing and learning the "netiquette" of the group before you post messages of your own.

**This manual is written primarily for those using the SPSS Motif-based user interface, which requires an X-terminal or X-terminal emulation software. All examples within the manual assume that the user is interacting with SPSS through the Motif-based display. Nevertheless, this manual, in combination with SPSS Base System: Syntax Reference Guide, Release 5.0, provides useful information for all users of Base SPSS software. Of particular value are Appendix C and Appendix G, both of which are applicable to the use of SPSS with characterbased (e.g., VT100) terminals.
